Description

A delicious spicy tuna melt sandwich with a flavorful zesty filling on crispy sourdough bread.


Ingredients

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha or hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 8 slices sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, sriracha, Dijon mustard, finely chopped celery, red onion, parsley, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly until well-blended.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread generously.
  3. Lay out four slices of bread unbuttered sides facing up. Divide the spicy tuna salad evenly among these slices.
  4. Top each sandwich with shredded cheddar cheese and a few thin tomato slices.
  5. Cover the sandwiches with the remaining bread slices, ensuring that the buttered sides are facing outward.
  6. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until the bread turns golden-brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Slice the sandwiches in half and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

Make the tuna salad a day in advance for better flavor. Avoid overmixing to maintain texture.
