Description

A delicious and easy casserole that combines savory sausage, fluffy eggs, and melted cheese, perfect for a warm family breakfast.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, crumbled
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 6 cups cubed bread
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the crumbled sausage until nicely browned, about 6-8 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and mustard powder until well combined.
  3. Gently fold in the cubed bread, cooked sausage, shredded cheese, and any optional vegetables.
  4. Grease your casserole dish generously, then pour the mixture into the dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate it overnight.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) the next morning. Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown on top.
  7. Let the casserole cool for about five minutes, then slice into squares and serve.

Notes

For a lighter option, use turkey sausage and almond milk. Customize the dish by using different cheeses or adding vegetables.
