Description

A delightful Indo-Chinese fusion dish featuring crispy fried chicken enveloped in a tantalizing sauce made with spices, ketchup, and sesame oil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts or Thighs
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 piece Egg White
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • Vegetable Oil (for frying)
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
  • 2 tablespoons Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, minced
  • 23 Dried Red Chilies or Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1/2 cup Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Garlic Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar or Honey
  • 1/4 cup Water (as needed)
  • Sliced Green Onions (for garnish)
  • Toasted Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
  • Thin Strips of Fried Onion or Bell Pepper (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Cut the boneless chicken into bite-sized pieces. In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken, egg white, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well-coated.
  2. Heat the Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Fry the chicken pieces in batches until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  4. Create the Aromatic Base: In the same pan, lower the heat and add sesame oil. Add minced garlic and ginger and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Mix the Sauce: Add dried red chilies, tomato ketchup, soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, vinegar, and sugar or honey into the pan. Stir well.
  6. Combine Chicken With Sauce: Add fried chicken to the sauce and toss until well-coated. Add water if needed for a looser sauce.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, transfer to a platter, and garnish with sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds, and fried onion or bell pepper strips. Serve hot.

Notes

Customize the spice level by adjusting the amount of red chilies and garlic sauce to suit your taste.
